Solution to SharePoint 2013 Issue: Content Search Web Part Does Not Retain Properties When Creating a Site From a Custom Template
The Scenario Our goal was to have a reusable site template that could be used to provision a SharePoint site with pre-existing web parts via a workflow. We started by creating a team site, adding various web parts, libraries and custom metadata. We finished by creating a home page with a Content Search web part that would show the ten most recent documents across all libraries in the current site. We then saved this site as a template. Next, we instructed the workflow to create a new subsite using this template whenever an item was added to a list at the root site. But after populating documents on the subsite, we found that our web part was not showing document images properly. The issue can be seen in the image below. Problem & Analysis The SharePoint Content Search web part does not retain all of its properties when a site […]
Using Out-of-the-Box Field Level Security to Apply Security to Business Process Flows in Dynamics CRM 2013
Business processes in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013 are great out-of-the-box, but there are also a few things that we can do in terms of extending the functionality of the stages with some customizations. In this blog I'll show how to use out-of-the-box field level security to apply security to business process flows in CRM 2013. Hiding and showing a section is a good way to limit your end users to be working with only the fields that they need access to, but we can apply out–of-the-box field level security to business process flows as well. Let’s say you wanted to add a Boolean field called something like Progress to the first step, and only certain users could be allowed to change the value of Progress from No to Yes. What you would do is: 1. Create a new Boolean field that is enabled for field level security: 2. Create a […]
Business Process Flows in Dynamics CRM 2013: Hiding/Showing a Section Based on the Current Stage
Business processes in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013 are great out-of-the-box, but there are also a few things that we can do in terms of extending the functionality of the stages with some customizations. In this blog I'll show how to conditionally hide/show a business process flow section based on the current stage. For example, let’s say that for some business process flows, before entering information on a new lead you want to validate that this lead does not already exist in CRM as an account or contact: To drive home this point to your end users, on the lead form, you will not show ANY sections unless this stage has been addressed. Therefore, if you are in the “INITIAL” stage as shown above, then nothing should be visible on the lead form until you progress to the next stage (in my example the stage name is GATHER). Here is how […]
A Quick Introduction to Business Process Flows in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013
What are Business Process Flows? Business Process Flows in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013 are a new and powerful addition to the Processes section that helps visualize the necessary steps in a business process. From MSDN: A business process flow guides you through various stages in the business process, from start to finish. …..The process flow will tell you where you are in the process, where you came from, and what to do next. You are able to continuously monitor your own progress.  Source: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn481586.aspx Creating/Modifying Business Process Flows As business process flows are an out–of-the-box construct in CRM 2013, it is quite simple to create or modify a business process flow. The easiest way to view all business process flows is to first select Settings on the command bar, then Processes from the sub-options in settings. Then you will be able to change the view of the processes to Business […]
Item Allocation Quantity Does Not Match Sum of Allocated Orders in Microsoft Dynamics GP
Issue This is an issue in Dynamics GP that I have seen a few times, especially with clients that have a number of third-party products or customizations. The ITEM INQUIRY window is showing a certain quantity allocated, but when you drill down on the allocation, the allocated orders do not add up to the total allocated quantity. You might try to run the ITEM RECONCILE, but it doesn’t make any changes to the allocation. You might try to do a manual update to the item allocation quantity in the backend, but as soon as you run the ITEM RECONCILE again, it reverses the changes you just made. So at this point, what do you do? Diagnostic Tools Item_Allocation_Detail.sql - As it turns out, there are a number of possible inventory allocations that do not show up in the ITEM ALLOCATION INQUIRY window. However, the following script will show all the […]

Increase User Adoption with Your Own In-House CRM Support Entity in Dynamics CRM 2013 - a Step-by-Step Guide
User adoption is pivotal when implementing Microsoft Dynamics CRM within your organization. A key component to turning your CRM implementation into a successful investment is by providing timely post go-live and on-going support in a manner that reassures your users that the system will be properly supported. Support could range from training, user feedback, suggestions, enhancement requests, technical issues, bugs, reporting requests, etc. It’s best to have a solid plan in place, whether that’s using an existing I.T. ticketing system or having dedicated staff. But the reality is that many companies don’t have the time and/or resources to put something in place until after the first critical user adoption period has passed. If users don’t adopt to the system initially, it makes it much harder to get them on board later on. One way to show your users that they’ll have the support they need is by creating your own […]
