Reconciling Inventory to the GL in Dynamics GP
There are multiple ways to reconcile sub-ledgers to the GL in Dynamics GP, the Reconcile to GL routine being one of my favorite, but there can be times when you’re still stumped wondering what happened? I had a client recently face this situation. They ticked and tied every transaction to the GL, but their Inventory still did not balance to the GL. In the end, it all came down to a sales return transaction. The quantity being returned went into the Returned bucket instead of On Hand. When the inventory is put into the Returned quantity field, it changes the distributions for the transaction and puts the distribution type as “RETURNS” instead of “INV” if it were put back in inventory. If you’re using the Inventory Historical Stock Status report in an attempt to reconcile, the quantity returned will not hit this report. To fix it, an inventory transfer needs […]
Renaming Records in NetSuite
One of the most important features in a CRM or ERP software service is to be able to make customizations with ease. In this article, we will go over renaming records in NetSuite, to change the names of your records and transactions from NetSuite's default names to names that fit the terminology of your company.   The ability to customize fields, centers, tabs, and records in NetSuite allows any company to make their NetSuite environment custom-tailored to meet their business needs.  Specifically speaking, one of the first action items a company steps through during their NetSuite implementation is reviewing the default terminology used in NetSuite (Setup > Company > Rename Records/Transactions) For example, service companies may consider their “customers” as “clients.”  By simply adjusting the record name on this setup page, NetSuite will adjust all non-customized records, transactions, and page names accordingly.  Using your company’s terminology in NetSuite can facilitate […]

How To Integrate GP Data Into Prophix
Prophix interacts with many types of ERP systems, but one of the most common ones is Microsoft Dynamics GP. If you have used Prophix before, you will know that it uses customizable dimensions to determine an information point where all of the dimensions meet called a fact when storing data. Many Prophix users insert this data into the tables manually or with spreading into data entry forms. If you would like to simply migrate data into Prophix from the GP tables, there is a better tool that exists in the Prophix interface: Process Manager. Typically, you would either need to use macros or separate integration applications to pull data into an external reporting application. Both of these migration methods can be frustrating and bewildering. Thankfully, Prophix has an easy-to-understand integration tool built right into the application. Process Manager can be used to integrate data directly from GP tables or a […]
How to Use Statistical Accounts for Expense Allocations in NetSuite ERP
This article discusses the use of statistical accounts to perform expense allocations in NetSuite ERP. Statistical accounts are non-monetary accounts that can be used to maintain statistical information for a variety of metrics. For example, a statistical account could be established to maintain the employee headcount by the department in an organization. This statistical account could then be used to allocate the total amount of expenses in a general ledger account for a given time period amongst various departments, for example, allocating rent expense amongst the departments by head count.  The statistical accounts functionality is included with the NetSuite Advanced Financials module. Below we will discuss the following: Enabling features for statistical accounts Creating statistical accounts Viewing statistical accounts Creating statistical journal entries to establish the balances in the statistical accounts Performing expense allocations using statistical accounts Enabling Features for Statistical Accounts You must enable statistical accounts in the enabled […]
The Top 3 Reasons Why You Want to Implement Microsoft Dynamics GP Part 3 of 3
Dynamics GP has the largest 3rd Party Vendor network, several ‘Cloud’ offering options, bullet-proof architecture, and is one of the lowest total cost of ownership ERP software products on the marketplace today. There are many reasons to use Microsoft Dynamics GP as your ERP solution. We've already gone over several reasons why you should implement GP, but in this post, I am going to highlight what I believe are the top 3 reasons why you should implement Microsoft Dynamics GP. 1. Immense 3rd Party Product (Add-On features) Catalog From a core feature/functionality perspective, there isn’t much of a difference between today’s ERP software applications.  No matter what solution you’re looking at, everyone needs a chart of accounts, the ability to record payables/sales invoices, and pay vendors/receive cash from customers. However, the real power of an ERP system comes into play when an organization has specific needs that require further attention […]

Microsoft has invested years of development and acquisition into sustaining their lead in the small to middle ERP products market. The result of this investment is Dynamics GP, which has one of the largest sets of reporting tools, out-of-the-box functionality, and scalability of any ERP software product on the marketplace today. There are many reasons to use Microsoft Dynamics GP as your ERP solution. In this blog, I will continue to highlight what I believe are the top reasons why you should implement Microsoft Dynamics GP. If you missed our first 3 reasons check our previous post here. 1. Reporting Along with all the base functionalities of Dynamics GP, there is also a multitude of reporting options available to users. Everyone knows these days that the ability to view your Data in Microsoft Excel is what most people want from their reports. Excel allows you to take that ‘raw’ data […]
3 Key Reasons Why You Should Implement Microsoft Dynamics GP Part 1 of 3
Microsoft Dynamics GP is one of the longest running, most supported, large user-based ERP software products in the marketplace today. Originally managed by the hugely successful entrepreneur Doug Burgum, GP has been the cornerstone of mid-market ERP for over 23 years. There are many reasons to use Microsoft Dynamics GP as your ERP solution, however, in this blog series, I will highlight what I believe are the top reasons why you should implement Microsoft Dynamics GP. 1. Part of the Microsoft Family of Business Application Software Microsoft purchased Dynamics GP back in 2003 and over the years has embraced the acquisition of what was then called Great Plains into its basket of business application software. Dynamics GP put Microsoft on the map as one of the leading solution providers of business application software in the marketplace. Unlike other owners of ERP software products who tend to own the software and […]
