3 Document Management Mistakes Every New SharePoint User Makes
If you are new to Microsoft SharePoint Online, or are considering implementing SharePoint Online, resist the following common mistakes: Creating a File Share on SharePoint Placing everything in SharePoint Thinking of SharePoint only as a document management tool File Share Pains For many, the reality of document or file management is a nested folder hierarchy on a local File Share. While initially this structure works well enough, as many have discovered it becomes a less than optimum option as folder designs grow. Typical problems inherent in this approach include: Broken access permissions No governance on folder creation nomenclature Extremely slow and unreliable search capabilities Limited document collaboration with nested folders Inconsistent or non-existent document versioning All of the above problems can contribute to poor network performance with multiple versions of documents clogging email servers and bloated network storage containing duplicate documents. Without manually inspecting similar documents, the default reaction is […]

Dynamics GP Disaster Recovery Planning
While setting up and upgrading Dynamics GP for clients, I often find disaster recovery planning is something that is overlooked. Often, only the databases are backed up and newly created companies have not been added to the backup plan. In light of this, I want to walk you through what you’ll need to have ready to bring up your GP system quickly in the event of a disaster or data loss. For the purposes of this blog, we will assume that only the SQL Server needs to be recovered. In this case, no software will need to be reinstalled unless it was installed on the SQL server itself. Since all our other servers are still up and running, but are pointed to the SQL server, the software on these servers would be safe in this case. 1. Capture Logins It is important to capture SQL logins from the SQL server […]

During my time as a NetSuite consultant, I have done many customer additions and updates in NetSuite using the CSV (Comma Separated Values) import tool. Along the way I discovered a few things that would have made my imports go a little faster had I known them from the start. In this blog, I’d like to share five time-saving tips to keep in mind when importing customer records into NetSuite.   1. Advanced Partners with Sub-Partners When assigning an Advanced Partner to a customer record, you will need to include both the ID and the name of the Sales Rep exactly as they appear on the record. Example: Below is a screen shot of a Partner named Kristen Johns. She is a sub partner of Mike Smith, and her ID number is 19:1 (if you do not enter the colon you will get an error message). To enter Kristen as a […]
