Technology, The Future …... Now?
I recently read an interesting book by Michio Kaku, called Physics of Future. The book contained his predictions about science and technology over the next 100 years based on leading research being done today. He predicts many things from self-correcting genes to space elevators, and some of his most interesting concepts relate to the world of computers. Based on the exponential increase in computing power and continual reduction in processor sizes, he predicts a world in the next 20-30 years where computer chips are cheaper than paper, and distributed throughout the environment. People can control machines with their minds, access the internet through their contact lenses, and have robots performing many human functions. He also discusses how hardware continues to follow this path of improved performance, while software struggles to keep up because a human actually has to write the code and program the software, while a laser can create […]

Hubspot vs. ClickDimensions
Marketing Software Comparison – When CRM Is Not Enough The decision to invest in a marketing automation tool is critical to your organization’s marketing success. We recently took some time to evaluate and compare two very popular marketing solutions. First we looked at HubSpot, an “all-in-one marketing software” with a major focus on driving inbound marketing. The second product we evaluated was ClickDimensions, a Microsoft certified email marketing and marketing automation solution built for Microsoft Dynamics CRM. Then we identified two pros and two cons for each solution. HubSpot Pros 1. Search Engine Optimization What truly makes HubSpot a great inbound marketing application is because of its SEO tools. HubSpot includes a built-in keyword analysis tool that enables you to find and track your most effective keywords. Another powerful SEO tool offered by HubSpot is their Page Grader, this allows you to diagnose and fix poorly ranking pages by providing […]
Improving SharePoint Application Performance
Refining your custom SharePoint solution's performance is an important and worthwhile effort. If your application's lists have a few hundred or less items, then performance may not be an issue. Such low numbers are easy to process and the servers can handle it with ease in most cases. If you have nearly 1,000 lists the application may become sluggish resulting in issues being reported by the users. To avoid a sluggish system, we recommend that you review the code for the following common issues: 1. Not making unnecessary connections to the server. 2. Keeping our data sets clean of extra columns or data we don't use. 3. Properly closing SPSite and SPWeb. 4. Loops are being handled correctly and are not redundant. 5. Wherever we query SharePoint, we're using CAML to get our items, not simply using Linq against an item collection. If the common issues stated above do not […]
Importing Data into Microsoft Dynamics CRM – the Native Import Tool vs. Scribe
I’ve recently been assigned many different data import tasks. For me, one of the most difficult decisions is what tool to import the data with; the out of the box Import Wizard, Scribe, Direct SQL imports, a custom C# tool? I knew that the most recent version of Microsoft Dynamics CRM had an improved out-of-the-box native import tool, but wondered how it compares to the other well-known tools. During this article I will discuss my experience importing data using the native data import tool and scribe. Using the Native Import Tool Using the out-of-the-box CRM data import tool I encountered a series of challenges. Immediately I noticed the contacts name was in one field, first name, last name, middle name, and of course “nick names” in quotes. The second column in the file was a text field with several skills separated by commas that were supposed to be child record […]
Server Consolidation and Microsoft Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V
Have you ever stood in your server room and wondered if you could reduce the amount of hardware that you had to inventory, monitor, and manage? Minimizing the amount of hardware clutter is now easier than you think, and in most cases you already have some of this technology in your network. The solution we are talking about is called server virtualization. Server virtualization allows a single piece of server hardware to run multiple Virtual Servers. This technology is made possible using Microsoft’s Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V server role. The advantages to server virtualization are as follows: • Server Consolidation • Business Continuity Management • Software Test and Development • Dynamic Data Center Server Consolidation Most of the servers running in a typical IT environment run between 5 percent and 15 percent utilized. This means that power, cooling and rack space are not being used as efficiently as they […]
Fixed Asset Tax and Freight Costs within Microsoft Dynamics GP
The GP functionality of adding the appropriate sales tax and freight to the matched invoice document in POP does not take into consideration adding the value of those additional costs to the fixed asset that is being purchased when using the Fixed Asset module. The steps below will get those costs into the fixed asset module as well into the individual assets that they are associated with. 1. First, create a purchase order with one line and a quantity of more than one for assets, generate a shipment record with the Create Multiple Fixed Assets checkbox checked in the FA PO Additional Information window and post the document. 2. Next, create a matched invoice record against the shipment document and modify the extended cost of each line item with the appropriate amount of tax and or freight and delete the amounts from the Freight and Tax fields at footer of […]
