What’s New With CRM 2016 Spring Wave?
As of the December 2016 update for Dynamics 365 (online and on-premises), Dynamics CRM functionality is now included as a part of Dynamics 365. In order to enhance the CRM user experience whether to make it more user-friendly for mobile clients or to enrich the ease of use for web clients, the CRM 2016 spring wave includes many new and interesting features for end users. Editable Grids in CRM 2016 Spring Wave In the older Dynamics CRM releases, the users were not able to enter any data directly into Grids (like form views) or subgrids on the forms. They had to click each record individually, open its form, edit it and save it. Users complained that this function required too many clicks. With the new editable grids, the users can do the following: Inline editing of any type of field in any row. Group and sort by any […]
Azure AD Connect Pass-Through Authentication
Have you ever wanted a simple Single Sign-On (SSO) solution for Office 365 without having to manage and maintain SSL certificates or ADFS? Microsoft has deployed a preview version of their “pass-through authentication” to the latest version of the Azure AD Connect (AAD Connect) tool. What this means is a simple, but effective SSO solution for the end user on a corporate domain joined machine. Another benefit of the pass-through authentication provided by the Azure AD Connect tool is the integration with self-service password reset (SSPR) functionality that enables the end user to reset their password without the need of helpdesk support. From a high level, the authentication process is depicted by the diagram below. Many security related questions arise whenever a new SSO solution is presented. Microsoft has confirmed all usernames and passwords are passed to the on-premises connector, then passed back to Azure AD over an encrypted HTTPS […]
Calculating Dynamics CRM Rollup Fields On Demand
Rollup fields are a great addition to Dynamics CRM. Rollup fields are calculated by Asynchronous System Jobs which runs in background. By default, Mass Calculate Rollup Field job runs every 12 hours after a Rollup field is created or updated. This delay is needed to assure that Mass Calculate Rollup Field job runs during the non-operational hours of an organization. But in some business scenarios, users need this calculation in real-time and on demand. Dynamics CRM has an option available, called Online Recalculation. If a user hovers over the rollup field on the form, one can see the last time this field was updated, plus a Refresh icon to recalculate a rollup field. The following figure shows Online Recalculation: Limitations with Online Recalculation The Online Recalculation option is only available in Online Mode. You can’t use it while working offline. The Maximum Hierarchy Depth is limited to 10 for the source record. This […]
PTE Timesheets Automatically Rejected in Microsoft Dynamics GP
Recently, I had a customer state that they opened a new fiscal year and were having a problem with PTE timesheets automatically getting rejected. We were able to narrow it down to just new projects created in the new fiscal year that were experiencing the problem. PTE timesheets for projects in the previous fiscal year would get approved successfully. I ended up opening a ticket with Microsoft and here are the steps we went over: Project >> Transactions >> Time and Expense >> Timesheet Entry The employee completed their timesheet for the week and clicked Submit as normal. Project >> Navigation List >> PTE Timesheets > Not Submitted The approver could open up the transaction and attempt to approve it, however, it would automatically have a “Rejected” status. Administration >> Setup >> Company >> Workflow >> Workflow Maintenance We reviewed the workflow setup for project timesheets and confirmed […]

How To Backup, Delete And Re-Create An SQL Table
Did Your Company Table Fail During A Dynamics GP Upgrade? From time to time during upgrades, we run into time-consuming issues that really don't make much sense. I have performed more Dynamics GP upgrades than I care to count and no two are ever alike. The process below will guide you through backing up, deleting and re-creating a Dynamics GP company table that failed to upgrade. (This happened during a test upgrade, and we did not get this error during the production upgrade. Go figure.) During Dynamics GP upgrades you will find from time to time that a company will fail to upgrade. Worse yet you check the error and find you get something like this: Then you check for the temporary table and it does not exist. This script was used to solve the issue I was having with this table in question. BEWARE! If using this […]
How To Integrate GP Data Into Prophix
Prophix interacts with many types of ERP systems, but one of the most common ones is Microsoft Dynamics GP. If you have used Prophix before, you will know that it uses customizable dimensions to determine an information point where all of the dimensions meet called a fact when storing data. Many Prophix users insert this data into the tables manually or with spreading into data entry forms. If you would like to simply migrate data into Prophix from the GP tables, there is a better tool that exists in the Prophix interface: Process Manager. Typically, you would either need to use macros or separate integration applications to pull data into an external reporting application. Both of these migration methods can be frustrating and bewildering. Thankfully, Prophix has an easy-to-understand integration tool built right into the application. Process Manager can be used to integrate data directly from GP tables or a […]

DocuSign – The Friction Buster
At FMT we run our business on the platforms we sell. Before we consider adding a new tool to our sales repertoire, we implement it and learn the ins and outs as beta testers to ensure it provides value to our customers. When we implemented DocuSign, I had an inkling it would become an indispensable tool to those of us that sell for a living. Before DocuSign In the past, we would have to print contracts, hustle to the printer across the room, hunt down our CEO for a signature, hustle back to the scanner, scan the contract, rename the file, save it to the hard drive, launch outlook, and then finally email it to the customer. The customer was then required to print the contract, hunt down their Executive’s signature, re-scan the document, rename the file, save it to their hard drive, launch outlook, and email it back. Finally, […]
