SharePoint 2013 User Profile HTML Properties Lose Values on Edit – Here’s the Work-Around
The Problem In SharePoint 2013 there is a common problem that occurs when editing a user profile in situations where there is more than one HTML user profile property. In these instances, all the HTML properties except for the last one on the page will lose their values. This problem occurs in both SharePoint 2013 Online and On Premise. And it occurs on both the user profile edit pages accessible from SharePoint Central Administration and from My Sites. The Reason The problem is caused by a logical JavaScript error on the user profile edit page. A Java-Script function PopulateEditableRegion() is generated for each HTML property and is responsible for populating the HTML property with its value of the edit page. When there are more than one HTML property, this function runs only for the last HTML property on the page. function PopulateEditableRegion() { var editableRegion = document.querySelector('[InputFieldId=ProfileEditorEditAboutMe_hiddenRTEField]'); if (editableRegion) editableRegion.innerHTML […]
Step-by-Step Guide to Portal Development for Microsoft Dynamics CRM
The Challenge Oftentimes in the world of Dynamics CRM, the need arises for non-CRM users to gain access to CRM data. A common solution is the implementation of a web portal which allows these users to perform certain actions on applicable CRM data. Microsoft offers two portal solutions: the Customer Portal and the Partner Relationship Management Portal. These are managed solutions, can be easily imported into any CRM environment, and come with detailed instructions on how to quickly and efficiently deploy. However, like any construct that is general in its scope, the aforementioned portal solutions do have some caveats. The two solutions install extraneous features onto CRM that are not necessary for portal development, often confusing CRM users and requiring the need to go back and hide all of the excessive customizations. Furthermore, by default, the two portals both use Windows Live for authentication (requiring users without Windows Live to register […]

GL Integrations to Fixed Assets Sub-Ledger and Others in Microsoft Dynamics GP
The Challenge As a company grows so does the need to track information on a more granular level to strengthen the audit trail. One way of doing so is to track transaction information at the sub-ledger level. Unfortunately, many Dynamics GP users are entering transactions directly in the general ledger while, ideally, these transactions should be tracked within their respective sub-ledgers. Microsoft Dynamics GP provides a useful out-of-the-box interface to transfer sub-ledger transaction information up to the general ledger. The challenge is to transfer journal entry details from the general ledger back down to the sub-ledgers – especially for organizations with hundreds or thousands of general ledger entries. The Solution Using simple integrations and configurations within GP, FMT has developed an efficient method to take standard general journal entries and integrate the transactions back into your sub-ledgers including fixed assets and other sub-ledgers. By utilizing tools such as eOne’s Smart Connect, […]

Implementing Multiple EFT File Formats for a Single Checkbook in Microsoft Dynamics GP
ACH (EFT) file format configuration within Microsoft Dynamics GP is a relatively straightforward process. However, what do you do when your bank requires you to use one particular format for Consumer transactions and another for Business transactions? For example, your bank’s requirements could be that you must use a PPD (Prearranged Payment and Deposit) format for Consumer Account transactions and a CCD (Cash Concentration and Disbursement) format for Business Account transactions. This requirement can easily be addressed by using the standard functionality and tools within Dynamics GP 2013 by following the steps outlined below: Step 1 Create the two separate EFT formats – one for PPD and one for CCD. This process can be simplified by using the Export function to export the current format, import as a new name, and finally perform any updates to the formats. In this example, there will be separate CCD and PPD formats for […]

Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online Office 365 Authentication Deep Dive
In this blog post I will discuss the authentication mechanism and behind the scene communication that happen for CRM 2011 Online Office 365 provisioned organizations using ADFS. The default CRM 2011 Online Office 365 provisioned organization uses “Authentication Platform” that provides identity storage (Microsoft Online IDs) and authentication. The directory store holds the users’ credentials. CRM 2011 Online and other cloud based offering from Microsoft rely and trust on authentication platform for validating that the user is authenticated. You need a valid authentication token to access these services. When you log in to a CRM 2011 Online Office 365 provisioned organization, it first goes to the CRM Online which redirects it to the login page because the user is not authenticated. The user provides the credentials and is authenticated by the authentication platform. It provides the user with a token which is used by CRM Online to validate that the […]
3 Reasons Why You Need a Microsoft Dynamics CRM Partner
You may ask, “why do I need a Microsoft Dynamics CRM partner for an out-of-the box CRM solution?” While there could be numerous answers to this question, I’d like to highlight three critical reasons why you should consider working with a Microsoft Dynamics CRM partner. Based on our experiences with clients, we have seen multiple instances of organizations failing to take on a CRM project in-house. While companies may choose to go solo on their CRM projects primarily due to budget constraints, reality has shown that in most cases the cost of a failed or “half-baked” CRM project by far exceeds the cost of working with an experienced CRM partner. Let’s talk about how and why working with a Microsoft Dynamics CRM partner will help save your company resources, manage frustrations and money, while improving a wide range of your internal and external business processes. Here are three reasons why […]
Business Intelligence Semantic Model – Creating Your First Tabular Model Project – Part 1 of 2
This is the first part in a blog series of two. Go straight to part 2 here.  In order to create your new tabular model project, ensure that you meet the following prerequisites: Have an instance of SQL Server 2012 running in Tabular mode. Have SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT) installed as part of SQL Server 2012. Microsoft provides sample databases. The one referenced in this blog is AdventureWorksDW2012 and can be downloaded from http://msftdbprodsamples.codeplex.com/releases/view/55330. Tabular models are created by selecting SQL Server Data Tools under Microsoft SQL Server 2012. The new tabular model opens a new project dialog in the tabular model authoring environment (Visual Studio 2010 or later) where you specify the Analysis Services Tabular Project template under Business Intelligence Analysis Services. Once your project is created, it opens in SQL Server Data Tools and an empty model, Model.bim, appears in the model designer, ready for use. When […]
