Creating Personalized Dashboards in NetSuite
Dashboards provide NetSuite users with easy and efficient real-time data in a centralized location. Custom dashboards can be developed for specific roles within the company and published to employees who have access to that specific role, therefore standardizing reporting throughout the organization. Once the custom dashboards have been published to the roles and the associated employee, the employee then has the ability to rearrange the layout of the dashboard and add/remove information displayed on the dashboard. Please note, permissions to edit or adjust the published dashboard can be limited to managers if desired. What’s in a Dashboard? When users log in and select the role they would like to work in, they are directed to the home dashboard page (image below). Dashboards are located on each of the header tabs within NetSuite. The dashboard page is comprised of what are known as “portlets”. You can see in the image above […]

5 Time-Saving Tips for Importing Customer Records into NetSuite
During my time as a NetSuite consultant, I have done many customer additions and updates in NetSuite using the CSV (Comma Separated Values) import tool. Along the way I discovered a few things that would have made my imports go a little faster had I known them from the start. In this blog, I’d like to share five time-saving tips to keep in mind when importing customer records into NetSuite. 1. Advanced Partners with Sub-Partners When assigning an Advanced Partner to a customer record, you will need to include both the ID and the name of the Sales Rep exactly as they appear on the record. Example: Below is a screen shot of a Partner named Kristen Johns. She is a sub partner of Mike Smith, and her ID number is 19:1 (if you do not enter the colon you will get an error message). To enter Kristen as a Sales […]
CIO Review Features - NetSuite: A Machine to Disrupt the Machine
By Eric Casazza, CEO, FMT Consultants  The digital world constantly disrupts the market. Businesses being run by way of disparate information silos and systems try to handle the disruption in a cumbersome, human way. Companies need to be nimble and efficient to anticipate the disruption, scale along with it and drive success. In the movie The Imitation Game, the Allied decoders also faced disruption in the form of coded German radio communications. As soon as the decoders thought they had made progress solving one message, hundreds more German transmissions came through, each with its own novel, machine-generated code. Alan Turing, an English scientist and mathematician hired by the Allies, believed it was impossible for even the brightest human minds in the country to beat a machine. The humans were thinking as individuals. What they needed to win the war was efficiency: unifying all that brain power into one powerful machine: the world’s first computer. Businesses deal with a similar problem. As soon as they think they’ve responded to a […]

Creating Google Map Custom Portlets in NetSuite – a How-to Guide
I am sure everybody appreciates NetSuite’s Dashboards and its flexibility in relation to custom reports and other business-related key performance indicators (KPIs). However, sometimes out-of-the-box functionality and numerous standard and custom KPIs in NetSuite are not enough. Frequently, there is a need to source external company information and feed it directly into NetSuite’s Dashboard, or perhaps create custom functionality that NetSuite does not offer out-of-the-box. In order to bridge this gap, NetSuite gives us ‘Custom Portlets’ which are custom SuiteScript scripts that can be deployed directly on NetSuite’s Dashboard. There are 4 different types of custom portlet scripts: List: A list of user-defined column headers and rows. (i.e.: custom Saved Search result portlet) Form: A basic data entry form which when submitted can create / modify records in NetSuite, HTML: A HTML-based portlet - the most flexible presentation format used to display free-form HTML (images, Flash, custom HTML).
