Microsoft Dynamics GP Integration Tools Guaranteed to Make Your Life Easier
Integration tools can be used to incorporate data from a variety of sources into Dynamics GP. They can also export data from Dynamics GP into many different file types such as text, Excel and XML. For some integrations, you will simply be moving data straight into Dynamics GP. For others, you will want to convert or manipulate the data prior to integrating it. Simple or complex, integration tools can make the whole process easier! The backbone of these tools is eConnect, a set of SQL stored procedures that can be installed for Dynamics GP. They are used to accept data and integrate it into the appropriate database tables. The eConnect stored procedures use business rules to validate the data before integrating it to GP, thus protecting the integrity of the data and only allowing you to insert valid data. Using eConnect without integration tools can be a complicated process. Which […]
How to Set Up a Distributed Process Server in Microsoft Dynamics GP
Are you a multi-tasker in Microsoft Dynamics GP? Have you ever tried to post batches while printing a report? Dynamics GP itself is not a very good multi-tasker. The system will put your post batch process in the queue and let you wait until your report has finished printing. Wouldn’t it be great if there was a way for you to turn your Dynamics GP system into a multi-tasker? There is! Microsoft Dynamics GP has the capability to send designated processes to another computer/virtual machine to be completed without slowing your multi-tasking workstation down. In this blog, we'll demonstrate how to set up a Distributed Process Server (DPS) in Microsoft Dynamics GP. To get started, I have set up two virtual machines; one for running the GP application (DB001) and the other one for distributing the process to (GP001). Both machines need to have Dynamics GP installed and have the […]
How to Customize Microsoft Dynamics GP Workflow Emails
In this blog post I will demonstrate how to add additional fields and customize email messages generated by the workflow engine in Microsoft Dynamics GP Workflow 2.0. Specifically, I’ll cover how to add the ‘Comment Text’ field for each Purchase Order line to the workflow emails generated for Purchase Order approvals. Important: please make sure to back up the Dynamics GP Company and System databases before making any changes. Out of the box, the ‘Comment Text’ field is not available in the ‘Available Fields’ list shown under the ‘Document Lines’ tab in the ‘Message Setup’ window (Tools -> Setup -> Company -> Workflow -> E-mail Message Setup). In order to add the ‘Comment Text’ field to the email message we need to 1) enable the field in the ‘Available Fields’ list in the ‘Message Setup’ window, and 2) modify the workflow process that generates the email message. The ‘Message Setup’ […]
Let’s talk turkey…and sales tax
Originally posted on Turkey and taxes. The U.S. has a long history of both. And in 2010, the two converged in Virginia as part of an annual Thanksgiving tradition where tribal and state leaders pay homage to a more than 330-year-old treaty: then-governor Bob McDonnell was presented with a turkey (and two deer) by tribal chiefs in lieu of taxes. Unfortunately, paying taxes in trade doesn’t work for most of us. Depending on where and how you celebrate this year, your Thanksgiving feast could be served up with a side of sales tax. Home cooking. Stop by your local supermarket for your traditional Thanksgiving dinner fixings – turkey, potatoes, cranberries, pumpkin, etc. – and you won’t pay sales tax on those food items in most states. That’s most, not all; 14 states tax groceries at either the full sales tax rate or a reduced rate. These states are Alabama, […]
How to Write Off Receivables Documents in Microsoft Dynamics GP
This blog post elaborates on a Microsoft Dynamics GP Support article and provides detailed instructions on how to use the write off receivables documents feature in Dynamics GP (Great Plains). You can use the Write Off Documents feature in Microsoft Dynamics GP to create a credit memo or a debit memo that will be applied to the document being written off when a customer overpays or underpays. In the Write Off Documents window, a write-off limit and cut-off date can be specified. You can also select whether to create a credit or debit memo for each customer or document. The debit and credit memos that you create will be posted and applied to the documents that are being written off. You can use the Writeoff Limit field in this window to enter the maximum outstanding balance for documents that are to be included in the write-off. Documents that have an […]
4 Easy Steps to Creating Custom SmartLists from SQL Views in Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015
We often receive requests from customers asking us to help them create custom SmartLists. For many, this is a paid consulting engagement. However, for those administrators with Dynamics GP SQL table knowledge, this can be done very easily using a SELECT statement. Here’s how to do it: Step 1 In SQL Server Management Studio, create a select query against a Company database that results in the desired data. In this example, we have created an Item Price by SKU query for Sales against the Fabrikam (TWO) Company database. Step 2 Create a SQL view from the select statement and grant SELECT permissions to the DYNGRP. Step 3 Open SmartList & select New to open SmartList Designer. Name the SmartList & list it under the appropriate series. Scroll down to views to locate the newly created view and click OK. Step 4 Grant access to this view by going to Tools […]
Dynamics GP Pricing Changes in 2016
Microsoft has announced that it is realigning Dynamics GP user prices across versions and licensing models effective January 1, 2016. The realignment will result in a price increase on the additional users you might need in the future. If you are thinking about adding more users in the next 6 to 12 months, there is no better time to buy for those users before the prices go up on January 1, 2016. This change will not impact the enhancement plan cost of users you have licensed prior to 1 January 2016, subject to the Customer Services and Support Plan Policy. Please contact us to add additional Dynamics GP users before the price increase, or if you have any questions to the price changes.

Read This Before You Start on Your Dynamics GP EFT for Payables Configuration
Configuring the EFT file for your bank can be a frustrating process, but it doesn’t have to be so. Below are some important things to keep in mind before setting up your EFT file. What You Are Doing and Why In order to prevent check fraud, ERP systems can create files that essentially act as a backup verification system for banks to verify the authenticity of checks before they are presented for payment. EFT files are specifically formatted to be fed into the bank's computer systems. With EFT files banks can run the listed checks against open checks before they’re cashed. There is no default EFT format and every bank is different. You will need to contact your bank to get the specific file requirements. Microsoft Dynamics GP has some default formats, but most likely you will need to modify these. To ensure everything is set up correctly, you can […]
