Microsoft Dynamics GP in the Cloud
Microsoft Dynamics GP is an enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution that connects the many moving parts of a small to mid-sized organization. Originally developed by Great Plains Software, the Dynamics GP platform was created in Fargo, North Dakota in 1981, and acquired by Microsoft in 2000. Since then Microsoft has continually advanced the Dynamics GP platform by adding improved technology, integration, and capabilities.   The perceived age of the Dynamics GP platform has caused organizations shopping for ERP solutions to look elsewhere for their all-in-one accounting/operations needs. This is caused in no small part by the fact that the Dynamics GP platform is only offered as an on-premise solution without an option for a true cloud. However, this need not be the reason to eliminate Dynamics GP from your search. In this blog, I will show you that Dynamics GP can function much like a cloud ERP offering by simply pairing […]
10 Reporting Options for Dynamics GP 2016 and When to Use Them
Microsoft Dynamics GP is a comprehensive accounting/ERP solution designed to help you streamline and unify all the different parts of your business. Dynamics GP provides you with enhanced visibility into your company’s financial data making it easy to make decisions quickly and accurately. Many companies running Dynamics GP, however, are just scraping the surface when it comes to utilizing the software’s reporting capabilities. At times, this means they often struggle to pull out critical data and reports when needed. This blog will provide an overview of the most common reporting options in Dynamics GP as well as the situations in which they are most useful. 1. "Out-of-the-box" Reports There are a number of pre-built reports that can be run in order to view common Financial and Systematic Reports. The data presented in the reports can be filtered, but the organization of the data is difficult to modify, limiting the visual […]
5 Reasons to Consider BI360 over Management Reporter for Microsoft Dynamics GP
When it comes to reporting out of Dynamics GP, there is a veritable smorgasbord of options available to you, the end user. Although it may be tempting to opt to use Microsoft's Management Reporter 2012 as it comes bundled with your GP license, Management Reporter may not be the best option depending on your or your organization's individual needs. FMT Consultants implements and supports a variety of third-party report writer tools for Dynamics GP reporting, and here are 5 reasons why you should consider Solver's BI360. 1. Excel-Based User Interface Most people in the ERP space are familiar with Excel. In fact, for many users, report writing tools only exist to export data out of Dynamics GP into Excel so that it can be further manipulated into final reports. So why not build your reports in Excel to begin with? Enter BI360. BI360 is an Excel add-in that allows the […]
Item Allocation Quantity Does Not Match Sum of Allocated Orders in Microsoft Dynamics GP
Issue This is an issue in Dynamics GP that I have seen a few times, especially with clients that have a number of third-party products or customizations. The ITEM INQUIRY window is showing a certain quantity allocated, but when you drill down on the allocation, the allocated orders do not add up to the total allocated quantity. You might try to run the ITEM RECONCILE, but it doesn’t make any changes to the allocation. You might try to do a manual update to the item allocation quantity in the backend, but as soon as you run the ITEM RECONCILE again, it reverses the changes you just made. So at this point, what do you do? Diagnostic Tools Item_Allocation_Detail.sql - As it turns out, there are a number of possible inventory allocations that do not show up in the ITEM ALLOCATION INQUIRY window. However, the following script will show all the […]
